Fadlallah: State must honor sacrifices, not squander them

Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Fadlallah delivered the Eid al-Adha sermon from the pulpit of the Imamayn al-Hasanayn Mosque in Haret Hreik, after leading the prayers.

Hawzah News Agency- In his political sermon, he stated: "This Eid comes at a time when this country is suffering from the repercussions of the war waged by the Zionist enemy, which has left its catastrophic effects in the immense destruction that has befallen the cities and villages of the South and the Western Bekaa, resulting in thousands of martyrs and wounded, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands from their homes. It has become clear that this is part of the pressures exerted on this country to force it into choices desired by this enemy, choices that threaten the security, land, and sovereignty of the nation."

He continued: "Faced with the dangers facing our nation, we call upon all Lebanese to transcend all sectarian, religious, and political considerations, and everything that constitutes a factor of division among the Lebanese, and to work towards strengthening internal unity and national cohesion, and to prove that they are like one body; if one part suffers, the whole body responds with aid and assistance.

Here, we acknowledge all the initiatives that have taken place and are taking place, but there is still a pressing need for more concerted efforts from the Lebanese people... We call upon the state to play an active role in fulfilling its responsibility towards its citizens, and to make them feel that they are honored in their homeland, indeed, that they are the most deserving of care.

We always say that this is not a favor, but rather its duty. On the political level, we want the state to be faithful to all these wounds and pains, to mobilize all its capabilities to heal them, and to be faithful to all these The sacrifices must not be compromised by its stances, decisions, and future actions. This includes working diligently to fulfill its promises to the Lebanese people and its responsibilities, such as ending the occupation and preventing its control over border villages and beyond, facilitating the return of displaced people to their villages and their reconstruction, and securing the release of prisoners. The Lebanese people, as always, are prepared to endure and sacrifice so that their homeland may be free and sovereign over its land.

He added: "At this stage, we are in dire need of strengthening the bonds of internal unity. This necessitates convergence at both the official and popular levels, confronting all that threatens this unity... and ensuring that the discourse is rational and calm, far removed from provocation and the incitement of sectarian and doctrinal instincts... and serves the interest of the entire nation, as we cannot confront all that we are suffering from with weakness, division, and accusations of treason. We call upon Muslims, especially those who stand today in Mina on one level, expressing their unity... to express these values in all their positions and stances by strengthening their unity in the face of the dangers that surround them on all levels... dangers that cannot be confronted with the discord that exists on the sectarian or political levels. It is through their unity that they can face the challenges, and they possess what it takes to have their say and their presence in this world..."

Fadlallah concluded: “Finally, we pray for the pilgrims to complete their rituals and for their deeds to be accepted, and we congratulate the Muslims on this Eid, asking God to bring them tidings of security, hope, peace, health and well-being, and to strengthen the bonds of unity among them. We also ask God for mercy for the martyrs and healing for the wounded… and patience for those who have lost loved ones, and for those who are enduring today the suffering of displacement and its difficult conditions… and for the end of the occupation and the return of everyone to their villages and cities, and the prisoners from the enemy’s prisons to their families and loved ones''.
